Division of Licensing and Regulatory Services

February 2008

On January 16, 2008, Licensing and Regulatory Services (Assisted Housing and Long Term Care managers), in collaboration with the Nursing Home Administrators Licensing Board (NHALB), and the Classification and Case-Mix Unit, presented a one-day training for Administrator’s in Training (AIT’s). The Maine Health Care Association hosted this event.

New licensees, AIT enrollees and their preceptors participated in a first-of-its-kind program that brought together varying DHHS stakeholders in one room to explain and demystify the job of running a long-term care facility in Maine. The training was not only an opportunity to educate AIT’s but an opportunity to learn from each other. There was synergy.

The feedback was overall very positive. Here are some of the comments:

  • "Very well done. I like the partnership model. Thank you!"…
  • "Was excellent, Thanks so much!"…
  • "Very good. Excellent Job! I learned so much." …
  • "Give to all AIT’s".

Based on this strong and positive reaction, DLRS plans to provide and expand this training to others in the long-term care field (i.e., Directors of Nursing and experienced administrators). Trainees’ will be able to apply for CEU’s with NHALB. The training is anticipated to be done twice a year and presentations done in the same collaborative spirit.

Thank you to all who attended and presented.
