Maine Vital Records

Welcome to the Maine Vital Records. We house Birth, Marriage, Divorce, and Death records from 1923 to the present. Maine officially started keeping these records in 1892. Records from 1892 through 1922 can be found at Maine State Archives.

There are three ways to order a record from Vital Records.

1. Walk-in request with payment by cash or check. Vital Records is located at 244 Water Street in Augusta, Maine. Written request through the mail with payment by check or money order. Please enclose a long, self-addressed, STAMPED envelope with your request.
2. Via the VitalChek Network at the toll free telephone number 1-877-523-2659. This is an automated telephone system with payment by credit card. VitalChek
