Importance of Flu Shots

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevenetion, respiratory infections like influenza (the flu) are more serious in people who have asthma. Getting the flu can lead to other more serious complications. Studies show that in both adults and children who have asthma, getting a flu shot is a safe and effective way to minimize the risk of a more dangerous illness. Here are 5 points to remember when flu season starts:

• Ask your doctor to give you a flu shot
• The flu is more dangerous to people with asthma
• Having a shot lowers your change of getting a more serious illness
• Communities may offer free flu shot clinics
• Asthma can be managed
