Controlling Asthma

While there is no cure for asthma, asthma is a disease that if properly controlled, can lead to an active and healthy lifestyle. Only your doctor can prescribe long-term medication to controll asthma but there are additional steps you can take to be sure your asthma is managed and under control:

• See your doctor for regular check-ups
• Set goals for yourself that help you feel healthier
• Have a written asthma action plan
• Avoid things that make your asthma worse; like cigarette smoke, dust, perfumes or furry animals
• Take all your medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor
• Get your flu shot each year
• Try to exercise regularly to improve your overall lung health
