Benefits for Babies, Children and Youth

Healthy Visits are Important for Everyone from Birth Through Age Twenty.
- Babies and toddlers benefit from regular exams and shots that protect against serious illness.
- School age children get checkups and shots they need for entry into school or daycare. Checkups may also help find problems that may affect learning.
- Teens and young adults can get answers to questions about: body changes; weight and eating habits; HIV, AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases; alcohol and drug use; birth control information; signs of illness.
Healthy Visits Include:
- A health history and physical exam
- Measuring height and weight
- Check on developmental level and mental health
- Immunizations (shots)
- Other tests, including tuberculosis and lead
- Health education
- Vision and hearing tests
- Help with food and diet
MaineCare Also Covers:
- Mental health services
- Follow-up care for health problems
- Dental check-ups and treatments
MaineCare Can Help With:
- Getting transportation
- Setting up health appointments
- Finding a provider or dentist
- Answer questions about covered services.

Regular checkups are important for children. Checkups prevent illness and find many problems early. Your provider checks your child's physical and mental health.
- MaineCare also covers dental services for your children. Your child should go to the dentist every 6 months.
MaineCare wants to make sure that the program is meeting the health care needs of members under 21. If you need help, our services are free.
MaineCare informs all eligible members about Benefits for Members Under 21. All newly eligible members under the age of 21 are informed through written materials within 60 days of notification of their MaineCare eligibility from the Bureau of Medical Services.
- MaineCare also will send you a reminder each time you should make an appointment for your child.
Following are the ages when you should bring your child in for a check-up. An exam is needed at each of these ages. Be sure to bring your MaineCare card and your child's shot record when you go. You should talk to your child's provider about any health problems your child might be having.
- One week and Again at One Month
- Two Months
- Four Months
- Six Months
- Nine Months
- Twelve Months
- Fifteen Months
- Eighteen Months and Again at Two Years
- Three Years
- Four Years
- Five, Six and Eight Years
- Each Year, Ten through Fourteen Years
- Each Year, Fifteen through Twenty Years
MaineCare can also assist medical providers in educating clients on the importance of scheduling and appearing for regular check-ups.
