H1N1 information for People over the age of 65

Adults over the age of 65

  • Older Adults are at lower risk for getting the H1N1 flu. Studies indicate people over the age of 64 have some immunity to H1N1. This is probably why they are not being as commonly affected by infection as young people are.
  • H1N1 vaccines will probably be available for older adults at a later date. Those at higher risk for getting H1N1 flu and getting very sick from it should get the first opportunities for H1N1 vaccinations.
  • However, if you are a health care worker or care for an infant under the age of 6 months, you are in a higher priority group to receive the H1N1 vaccine.
  • You should still get a seasonal flu vaccine. Older Adults are a priority group for the seasonal vaccine.
  • If you do have flu symptoms, call your doctor to see if prescription medications to treat the flu would be right for you
