Purchase Vaccine manufacturers are projecting that as many as 143 million to 146 million doses of influenza vaccine will be manufactured for use in the United States during the 2008-2009 influenza season. This is an all-time high supply of vaccine making it possible for more people than ever to seek protection from the flu. Each year state public health agencies work with federal partners to plan for the allocation and distribution of influenza vaccine. Using national guidance and state demographic information, including Maine’s annual birth cohort and estimated percent of population identified as at-risk for influenza-associated morbidity and mortality, the Maine Immunization Program requests the allocation of influenza vaccine from the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC). CDC responds to requests with actual state allocation once federal contracts have been finalized. Contact the Maine Immunization Program for more information on influenza vaccine or with questions or concerns at 1-800-867-4775.
