Purchase In the United States, influenza morbidity and mortality are reduced through the use of vaccine. Vaccinating persons at high risk for complications and their contacts each year before seasonal influenza begins to circulate is the most effective method of reducing the effects of influenza. Healthcare providers play a role to ensure vaccine is administered to persons during hospitalizations or routine healthcare visits, making special office or clinic visits unnecessary. Maine CDC's vaccine supply is determined in collaboration with federal partners. National vaccine supplies rely upon manufacturers' projected vaccine production and federal licensing regulations. Maine CDC does not anticipate a vaccine shortage this year. Four manufacturers are currently licensed to provide inactivated (injectable) vaccine, and another is licensed to provide nasal flu vaccine (Flu Mist). Resources: |
