1998 Maine Citizen Survey
The statewide Citizen Survey was conducted by telephone between October 10 and October 27, 1998. The Citizen Survey was conducted among a statewide sample of 600 Maine households. A sample of this size yields a sampling error of +/- 4 percentage points with 95% confidence at the total sample level. A two-stage sampling process was used to identify individuals with households. Market Decisions acquired a statewide RDD (randowm digit dial) sample of telephone numbers from Survey Sampling, Inc., a provider of scientifically generated random samples. After contacting a randomly selected household, the survey was conducted with the adult who celebrated the most recent birthday.

The survey instrument was pre-tested with persons unfamiliar with the study, and was refined to correct question wording that may have been unclear to some respondents. The final instrument included 125 questions and the actual respondent interview averaged 20.5 minutes in length.

All interviewing was conducted by Market Decisions using computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) technology. Among those households contacted for the survey, 37% completed the survey.
