Medicare

If you are 65 and over and receive Social Security Retirement or Railroad Retirement benefits you are eligible to receive Medicare to help pay certain medical expenses. Medicare has two parts: A & B.

Part A, hospital insurance is automatic, even if you continue to work and choose not to draw retirement benefits at age 65. For inquiries about Part A claims and other information, call 207-822-8484.

Part B, physician and other services insurance is optional, requiring payment of a monthly premium. If you are on Social Security the premium is deducted from your monthly check. For inquiries about Part B claims and other information call 1‑800-492-0919.

If your income is low you may be eligible for a program that pays the Part B premium, deductibles and co-pays. For more information, contact your local DHS office, Area Agency on Aging, or the LSE Hotline.

It is wise to call Social Security several months before you turn 65. For more information, contact your local Social Security Office.

Visit the Medicare Savings Calculator to see if you may be eligible to receive assistance in paying your Medicare Premium.
