Cool Summer Meals

Cool Breakfast Ideas

  • Cut up banana and some mandarin oranges
  • Vanilla yogurt with frozen mixed berries
  • Warm soft boiled egg with crackers or a scoop of egg salad made with light mayonnaise
  • 4 ounces grapefruit juice and a piece of 100% whole wheat toast

Drink plenty of water throughout the day

Cool Dinner Ideas

  • Scoop of tuna salad with lettuce and vegetables in season and a slice of 100% whole wheat bread or some brown rice
  • Cottage cheese with pineapple or peaches on a bed of lettuce with ½ a pita pocket
  • Roast beef or chicken breast sandwich with some grapes
  • Chef salad - put boiled chicken breast sliced up on a salad. Canned tuna or sliced turkey from the deli could be substituted for the boiled chicken breast. Have it with Croutons or a slice of bread.

Have all meals with a cold glass of milk.

Drink lactaid, soy or rice milk if you cannot drink cow's milk.

Early research shows men who drink milk are less likely to develop type 2 diabetes.

Have plenty of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains as part of your meals and snacks.

Small amounts of lean protein foods (chicken, low-fat cottage cheese, etc.) throughout the day are also important for aging healthfully.
