Consumer Directed Services

Maine’s Long-term Care programs include several models of consumer direction. Each model differs in how consumer direction gets setup for the consumer and which agency oversees your care. Please review the descriptions below and contact the Office of Elder Services with any questions.

Program Details

Family Provider Service Option (FPSO) Overview

Do you want to hire and direct your own personal care worker? The FPSO is an option that allows either the consumer or a family member to hire and direct their personal care worker under the Home Based Care (HBC), Private Duty Nursing (PDN), or Home and Community Benefits (HCB Waiver) program.

Homemaker Services - Self Directed Option

Consumers may arrange for and manage their own homemaking services using the self-directed option. Consumers may also select someone to manage their services. Consumers must be willing to screen, hire, train, schedule and supervise their worker. Home Care for Maine will provide the consumer with a minimum of two hours of instruction prior to beginning the self-directed option on the rights, risks and responsibilities of managing their own homemaking.
