Quality of Life Interview
The Quality of Life Interview is an adapted version of the Consumer Survey developed through National Core Indicators Project
. Maine has been using the Quality of Life Interview (QOL) for more than 5 years to collect and report information gathered around specific indicators of quality and overall satisfaction with services and supports. Interview questions are designed to assess consumer experiences of their “quality of life” in 6 main areas including self determination, community inclusion, health and safety, access to services and supports, and relationships. The project maintains consistency with the national project and enables comparisons with other participating states.
The QOL has been incorporated into the Disability Services overall Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement plan and serves to support requirements of the Community Consent Decree and Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS)
waiver compliance. Results are used to inform Developmental Services and other interested stakeholders on system performance and outcome measures assisting in policy planning, decision making and for quality improvement purposes.
Agencies providing residential, day and/or employment support services are asked to conduct interviews with adult consumers receiving case management and, additionally, a home support service (i.e. residential care, personal supports, shared living etc). Interviewers attend a QOL Administration Training prior to conducting the interview tool. Interviewer training maximizes the balance between consistencies of instrument administration and making sure that the consumer's response is a true reflection of what s/he feels.
