Telephone Assistance Program

Are You Eligible To Receive Telephone Service At Reduced Rates?

If you qualify, the Telephone Association of Maine (TAM) joins the Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Maine Community Action Association (MCAA) in urging you to take advantage of the Telephone Assistance Program.

TAM is made up of all 24 Telephone Companies in the State of Maine. Residential customers OR a member of a customer's household receiving support from any one of the following programs are eligible for the Lifeline Service Program.

  • Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Medicaid
  • Food Stamps
  • Emergency Assistance Program
  • Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)

Lifeline Service Program
Allows a customer, or a member of a customer's household, a $10.50 credit per month to be applied toward the telephone bill.

Installation Subsidy
Under this program, if you do not have a telephone, service can be installed for $10.00. Customers can install their own inside wire, or the telephone company can do it for a fee.
