Toxics and Hazardous Waste Reduction Program (THWRP) Data
The Toxics and Hazardous Waste Reduction Program (THWRP) encourages businesses, and state and federal facilities to reduce or eliminate their use and release of toxic substances as well as their generation of hazardous waste. Reducing or eliminating toxics and hazardous waste within a process rather than treating it at the end of a process, also called Pollution Prevention (P2), leads to a cleaner environment, a safer work place and substantial cost savings!
Presently, there are 423 facilities in Maine in the THWRP Program that are required to submit reports. Facilities include manufacturers of metal, wood, plastic, rubber, leather, paper and textile products, dry cleaners, vehicle maintenance facilities and a variety of other businesses.
