Thermostat Sales Ban

Maine law at 38 MRSA § 1661-C, sub-§ 5, bans the sale of mercury switch thermostats after January 1, 2006. In December 2002, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association applied from an exemption from the sales ban. The exemption was denied by the Department in a written decision dated August 8, 2003. The department's decision was affirmed on appeal to the Board of Environmental Protection in a written decision dated May 6, 2004.
