Progress Report For Phase II Dismantling - 7/14/2005Phase II Dismantling includes removal, cleaning, and shipment offsite of the piping associated with all chemical production, storage and delivery of product to trucks and railcars. Also included in Phase II is the cleaning of selected tanks for removal in later phases. Removal of the process and yard piping for the brine, chlorine, hydrochloric acid, hydrogen, caustic, and bleach systems was completed at the end of June. Piping which could be successfully decontaminated was shipped to a recycling facility. The remainder was disposed as special or hazardous waste. The chloropicrin production equipment has been sold and removed from the site. Preparation is beginning for cleaning and decontamination of approximately a dozen tanks expected to be most highly contaminated, including the brine saturators. This work is expected to be completed by the end of November, 2005. |
