Environmental and Geographic Analysis Database (EGAD)
Introduction
The Maine Environmental and Geographic Analysis Database (EGAD) (formerly known as the Environmental and Groundwater Analysis Database) was originally designed to store site and water quality information and currently includes spatially located data for 39 different types of potential and actual sources of contamination to groundwater in Maine. Access to comprehensive up-to-date analytical data allows DEP to assess trends in regional ground water quality and quantity. It also improves automated analysis and map-making capability including rapid access to information for emergency response to hazardous materials spills. Detailed well and analytical information in the database is used by staff to design remedial action at hazardous spill sites. It is also used by staff to evaluate potential for cumulative impacts of real estate development on ground water quality.
Recent efforts to expand and improve EGAD have involved the inclusion of data from the Bureau of Land & Water Quality including the addition of 10 Biological and Surface Water Sampling site types. This is in addition to the data that continues to be included from the Bureau of Remediation & Waste Management. To encapsulate the new addition of data from Land & Water Quality and to acknowledge the spatial (GIS) component of the data, EGAD is now known as the Environmental and Geographic Analysis Database, as data in EGAD now includes a broad range of environmental data including physical, chemical, biological and spatial data.

Electronic Data Deliverable (EDD) Statutory Section
The EDD is a required standard template for laboratory and field data submittals to EGAD. Authority for this requirement is granted under Maine's Uniform Electronic Transaction Act, 10 M.R.S.A. §9418 (2) (A). The ME DEP Groundwater Database EDD version 4.0 (ME DEP GWDB EDD v4.0) has been the standard used for the past 2 years. On October 1, 2007 an updated version, ME DEP EDD Version 5.0 was released and should be the format used for all data submissions by January 1, 2008.
EDD Version 5.0 is now available for use. A version with and without macros is available. Additionally, a new EDD Quick Reference Guide has been developed to help outline special requests and considerations when completing the EDD into one central document.
EDD Version 5.0 Without Macros: ME DEP EGAD EDDv5.0
EDD Version 5.0 With Macros: ME DEP EGAD EDDv5.0m contains macros to aid in filling out the EDD by formatting the EDD based on required fields for different types of data being submitted. Please note that not all users may be able to utilize and access these macros due to differences in software versions, firewall blocking, or security programs that may block the macros. These users should use DEP EGAD EDDv5.0 without macros. Maine DEP offers these macros as a tool to aid users in the process of filling out the EDD but does not make any guarantees on the effectiveness or performance of these macros and does not assume responsibility for programming errors that may be encountered.
The file EGAD Lookup Tables (Excel format), contains all the lookup tables and their values contained in the EGAD Database. These values should be used to fill in the appropriate fields in the EDD file for submittal. The EGAD Lookup Tables are updated frequently as additional LUP values are added so check back often for the most up to date EGAD Lookup Tables.
The file EDD Examples (Excel format) contains examples of EDDs filled out for different types of data including Laboratory, Field, Water Level & Flow, Non-Sample Data, and data for Samples Taken but Not Analyzed.

EGAD data have been accepted by the DEP to meet project requirements. However, the DEP makes no guarantee as to the accuracy and completeness of the data. To ensure accuracy and authenticity of the data, original laboratory analytical reports and field sheets should be consulted. The DEP does not assume any responsibility for the nature in which the data are used.
Types of Sites in EGAD
EGAD contains data from a number of different sites including sites with Land Use Activities which are Potential and/or Actual Sources of Contamination and sites where Biological and Surface Water Sampling is conducted.
