Remediation of Eastland Woolen Mill, Corinna

Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna, Maine manufactured woolen materials from the 1930s to 1997 when the mill closed. Hazardous substances, such as chlorobenzene compounds, were used in the manufacturing process. Over time, some of these substances were released, impacting local groundwater, surface water, sediments and soil. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (Maine DEP) are involved with the investigation and cleanup of this site. On July 22, 1999, the site was listed in the Federal Register on the National Priorities List (Remedial Superfund site list) and the site became eligible for federal remedial cleanup funds.
