Remediation of Eastland Woolen Mill, Corinna
January 2002 Update
In 2001, EPA and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contractors continued the Non-Time-Critical Removal Action (NTCRA) site activities, once again changing the landscape of the downtown area of Corinna from what it had become in 2000. By the end of December 2001, the following activities were completed:
- Route 7 bridge construction
- Route 7 road relocation
- Mill Pond was drained and restored as a river/wetland, thereby completing the restoration
- Corundel Dam repair
- Relocation of Odd Fellows Hall building
- Recreational trail bridge construction
Excavation of chlorobenzene and petroleum contaminated soils from Area 4 (located on mill property on the east side of Mill pond and on the north side of Route 7/ Main Street) and backfilling of the excavation
Excavation of chlorobenzene contaminated soils from Area 1 (located under the former mill complex, the former Route 7 bridge and the former river bed of the East Branch of the Sebasticook River).
