Safer Chemicals in Consumer Products and Services
Maine has been a national leader in our efforts to improve the chemical safety of consumer products. Our work within both the executive and legislative branches has evolved to include leadership work on comprehensive chemicals policy reform.
This website provides information about Governor Baldacci’s Task Force to Promote Safer Chemicals in Consumer Products and Services, meeting materials and reports of the Task Force, as well as implementation information related to Maine’s Toxic Chemicals in Children’s Toys statute enacted in 2008.

Chemical Use in Children's Products
The Board of Environmental Protection is seeking public comment on the following proposed rules:
- Chapter 880 - Regulation of Chemical Use in Children's Products; and (MS Word format) (pdf format)
- Chapter 881 Fees; Chemical Use in Children's Products (MS Word format) (pdf format)
The board will convene a public hearing on the rule at 10:30 am, December 17, 2009, at the Augusta Civic Center on Civic Center Drive in Augusta, Maine. The deadline for written comments is 5 pm, January 11, 2010. Comments may be submitted by mail, e-mail or fax to:
