-Application for Waste Discharge License and Site-Specific Ambient Water Quality Criteria for Copper in the Little Androscoggin River-

AUGUSTA- The Maine Board of Environmental Protection will hold a public hearing on the application by the Paris Utility District for renewal of its waste discharge permit including a request for site-specific ambient water quality criteria for copper in the Little Androscoggin River.

The hearing will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the Calumet Club, 334 West River Road, Augusta beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The purpose of the hearing is to receive oral and written testimony from the applicant and the public on whether the proposed wastewater discharge will meet all applicable water quality standards and whether the proposed site-specific ambient water quality criteria for copper in the Little Androscoggin River are based on sound scientific rationale and are protective of the most sensitive designated use of the waterbody.

Excerpts from the application and a copy of the draft Maine Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (MEPDES) permit are available on the Board?s webpage at www.maine.gov/dep/bep under featured links or by contacting Gregg Wood at (207) 287-7693. The complete file is available for inspection at the Department of Environmental Protection, 28 Tyson Drive, Augusta, Maine during normal business hours. The application may also be viewed at the Paris municipal office.
