Facilities in THWRP

Presently, there are 423 facilities subject to the reporting requirements of THWRP. A facility may meet the requirements in one or more of the 3 reporting categories as defined below.

Hazardous Waste:

Any facility that reports shipping more than 2,640 lbs. of Hazardous
Waste in a calendar year to the Maine Department of Environmental
Protection (ME DEP).

Toxic Use:

Any facility that reports their use of Extremely Hazardous
Substances (EHS's) to the Maine Emergency Management Agency
(MEMA), SARA, Title III, Section 312.

Toxic Release:

Any facility that reports their release of Toxic Chemicals to the Environmental Protection Agency's Toxic Release Inventory Program (EPA TRI), SARA, Title III, Section 313.

 

Facilities that ship between 661 an 2,639 lbs. of Hazardous Waste in a calendar year are only required to pay $100 fee and not report or develop a pollution prevention plan.

Facilities in THWRP include manufacturers of: metal, wood, textiles, electronics, plastics, rubber, composites, pulp and paper, leather, shoes, ships and boat builders, and food products. They also include service providers such as: vehicle repair, printers, dry cleaners, energy producers, phone companies, laboratories, universities, and hospitals.
