The Camden Riverhouse Hotel & Inns: Environmental Leader in Hospitality
The Camden Riverhouse Hotel & Inns is a certified Maine Environmental Leader in hospitality. Located in downtown coastal Camden, the Riverhouse also offers up to date amenities.
The Camden Riverhouse’s green business activities include:
- Timers on lights in all hotel public areas to conserve energy;
- Unoccupied hotel rooms are managed at cooler winter temperatures utilizing good southern building exposure and reducing heating fuel use;
- Using environmentally preferable cleaning products;
- Making transition to greener pool cleaning practices using ionization unit to eventually replace chlorination process;
- Linen and towel reuse program;
- Improved weatherization and insulation of building envelope;
- Increased energy efficiency for lighting through full CFL replacement (eleven years ago;)
- Increased transportation fuel efficiency by using motor scooter in place of automobiles for errands;
- Homegrown flowers and vegetables;
- Plans to install a more energy efficient boiler system.
David Dickey of the Riverhouse says, “Maine’s Environmental Leader certification program for hotels is helping people become more cognizant of good green practices in the lodging business sector. We plan to make further improvements in energy efficiency and other advantages from responsible use of resources.”
