The Beachmere Inn, Maine Environmental Leader in Hospitality

The Beachmere Inn in Ogunquit is a green certified Maine Environmental Leader in hospitality as well as an independent family owned and operated inn for the past 72 years. The Beachmere has achieved this distinction with one of the highest totals in certification scoring points, and is committed to continue reducing their carbon footprint and preserving the beauty in Maine.

Beachmere’s Environmental Leader status includes improvements in the areas of energy saving measures, housekeeping efforts, administration efforts, and building practices. Specific practices include:

Using solar panels to produce hot water for more than 32 rooms as well as employee housing;
Using solar photovoltaic panels to produce up to 5-8% of their energy needs;
Installing high efficiency window and door replacements, and additional insulation in exterior walls and ceiling, to improve building envelope;
Saving electrical energy by using ozone technology for laundry systems in place of hot water;
Installing high efficiency heating and cooling units;
Installing compact fluorescent light bulbs in all lighting fixtures;
Cleaning with only environmentally safe chemicals;
Making purchases in bulk quantities eliminating plastic and cardboard;
Choosing Energy Star appliances first;
Recycling bins are placed in all guest rooms and recycling locations are available in all common areas to capture plastic, newspaper, cans and glass;
Printing using only recycled paper;
Using 100% organic lawn care practices;
Renovating parking area with subsurface treatment system that cleans water runoff.
