Auto Body ERP
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Innovation received the 2004 State Innovation Grant to conduct the Auto Body Environmental Results Program (ERP) pilot project. The focus of the ERP was on the Southern Maine air quality non-attainment area because the auto body sector is known for air compliance issues.
The ERP reduced environmental impacts by:
- Reducing volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) that lead to ground level ozone
- Energy reductions lowering greenhouse gas emissions
- Proper handling of all materials to reduce potential release into the environment
- Using alternative proven pollution prevention technologies
- Increasing air compliance
- Increasing hazardous waste management compliance
- Increasing groundwater discharge compliance
