Public Meeting Regarding Application for Determination of Public Benefit

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection hereby gives notice that it will hold a public meeting on the application by Municipal Review Committee, Inc. for a determination of public benefit for a new solid waste landfill in Argyle Township or Greenbush.

The meeting is held as required by 38 M.R.S. § 1310-AA(2). The purpose of the meeting is to take public comments on the pending application with respect to the review criteria established in Waste Management Act, 38 M.R.S. § 1310-AA(3) and the Solid Waste Management Regulations, 06-096 CMR 400(5). The applicant must demonstrate that:

  • the proposed facility meets immediate (within the next 3 years), short term (within the next 5 years), or long term (within the next 10 years) capacity needs of the State;
  • the proposed facility is consistent with the state solid waste management hierarchy;
  • the proposed facility is not inconsistent with local, regional, or state waste collection, storage, transportation, processing, or disposal; and
  • (only if the facility proposes to accept waste not generated in the State of Maine) that operation of the facility would be precluded or significantly impaired if the waste is not accepted.

The meeting will be held at the Old Town Elks Lodge, at 37 Fourth Street in Old Town, Maine on Wednesday, July 2. There will be an afternoon session and an evening session; the afternoon session will be from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and the evening session will be from 6: 30 pm to 9:00 pm. Both sessions are open to the public.

Comments on the application may be submitted orally to the Department at the meeting or in writing.
