The Registration deadline for all Center sponsored courses is 8 days (14 days for programs related to Septic Systems) prior to the course. An additional $15 late fee will be assessed on all registrations received after the registration deadline date.

1) Basic and Advanced Erosion Control Practices

Description: This course is necessary to become certified in erosion control practices by the Department. In addition to a section on "Why erosion control is important", participants are provided with information on the proper selection, installation and maintenance of practices such as sediment barriers, mulch, vegetative stabilization, riprap, etc.

escription: This course and exam is designed to provide participants the ability to become internationally certified as a professional in erosion and sediment control practices. The exam review course is an 8-hour program that provides instruction on such topics as the universal soil loss equation, drainage calculations and laws and regulations. The exam is approximately 4 hours long. All exam participants must apply to, and be pre-approved by CPESC Inc. before sitting for the exam.


3) Septic System Installation

Description: This course is necessary to become certified as a septic system installer by the Department of Health and Human Services.  The day-long program covers the installation of various types of systems as well as aspects of The Maine Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Rules.          

 

4) Proprietary Devices

Description: This program will feature presentations from several suppliers of proprietary devices relating to subsurface wastewater treatment and disposal. Representatives will describe their products and how their use can benefit the system user. Presentations will impart valuable information about the latest technologies.

5) Training For Plumbing Inspectors

Description: This session will provide newly certified local plumbing inspectors and individuals seeking to become certified with a thorough explanation of the permitting, inspection and enforcement provisions contained in the Maine Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Rules. The course will focus on the review of HHE -200 forms for permitting; the system inspection process, the enforcement process; and the relationship of the local plumbing inspector to the client, site evaluator, system installer and the Department of Health and Human Services.

 

6) Septic System Inspection

Description: This course is necessary to become certified as a septic system inspector by the Department of Health and Human Services.  The day-long program covers inspection procedures for various types of systems, and proper use of the inspection form.  It also includes inspection scenarios to provide guidance on what can be expected in the field. 


7) Advanced Treatment Topics

Description: This session will give local plumbing inspectors, designers and installers of subsurface wastewater disposal systems information on a variety of advanced topics related to subsurface wastewater disposal. Topics will include fats, oils and grease; Underground Injection Control Regulations; commercial septic systems; aerobic and membrane treatment processes; septic system maintenance; erosion control and treatment tanks and pumps.


8) LakeSmart Training For Landscapers

Hours: 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.

Description: This program is specifically designed to provide instruction to professional landscapers on the principles of LaKeSmart Landscaping. Design of Shorefront buffers, pathways, stormwater management, and erosion control will be among the topics covered. Completion of the course will qualify participants to be listed as LakeSmart Landscapers on the Department's web site.


9) Stormwater Training for Engineers

Description: This
half-day course will provide instruction on the newly devised Phosphorous methodology in the Stormwater Best Management Practices Manual. The course will be very valuable to those engineers and consultants who work on projects in lake watersheds in the state, and will provide at least 4 professional development hours for engineers.


10) Thinking Ahead of The Machine

Description: This
course is designed to provide excavation contractors with a proven methodology to successfully phase a construction project to maximize efficiency and resource protection. The course will further provide information on permitting requirements and will include a panel discussion involving Maine
contractors.
