An eroding driveway is shown at right. There are two long eroding ruts. A solution here would be to divert the water now flowing in the ruts and disperse it into vegetated and forested areas on either side of the driveway. This could be done by using open-top culverts, broad-based drainage dips, or by bringing fill in and crowning the road (making it higher down the middle) so that water would run off to either side.
These solutions are not new. Did you know that the Romans crowned their roads to allow water to drain off quickly? Water that stays on a road damages the road.
