Governor's Awards for Environmental Excellence

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection is committed to improving our State’s regulatory climate and to creating a stronger culture of cooperation between government and Maine people and businesses.  As part of that effort, the Department invites you to participate in the new annual Governor’s Awards of Environmental Excellence.  The awards program honors businesses, not-for-profit organizations and public entities for their extraordinary efforts to protect and improve Maine’s environment.

Through this awards program, Maine DEP will celebrate and spotlight those who serve as a model we can all learn from for new, innovative ways to shift a culture toward sustainability while investing in infrastructure and creating good jobs. We are looking to recognize applicants with projects and programs born from innovation and collaboration that have resulted in measurable environmental and economic benefits. Successful candidates will be those who are solving environmental challenges through constructive and creative solutions that go beyond standard techniques or regulatory compliance requirements. 

Project applications will be subject to a thorough screening process that involves a review of technical merit; an evaluation of environmental benefits and sustainable use of Maine’s natural resources; and a review of an applicant’s compliance record, if applicable.  Eligible applications are reviewed and evaluated by a panel of senior departmental program managers.

The department encourages you to submit an application describing how your project has demonstrated environmental excellence and improved Maine’s environment and thanks you for your commitment to protecting Maine’s environment and ensuring a sustainable economy for future generations.
