Queen Anne's Lace (Daucus carota)

Habitat: |
This plant grows in fields and on roadsides. The flower heads grow to a height of 3 or so feet. |
Leaves: |
Alternately arranged, with a lacy or fern-like texture. |
Flowers: |
Tiny and white, growing in a flat cluster. There is a single tiny maroon flower in the center of the cluster. |
Fruit: |
Crispy, bristly capsules. After the flowers die, the flower head curls up and resembles a bird's nest. |
Helpful Tips: |
Queen Anne's Lace is not native to Maine. It originated in Europe and Asia. For more information, see Audubon Wildflower or Flora of Maine. |
