Habitat: |
This perennial plant grows in wooded areas. Its flowers can grow to a foot and a half tall. |
Leaves: |
Large, whorled in groups of 3, margins entire. |
Flowers: |
Maroon-colored, with three petals, smelling like a wet dog. |
Fruit: |
A reddish-colored berry. |
Helpful Tips: |
This plant is native to Maine. Its range spans from New Brunswick to Maryland, and west to Minnesota. It makes an appearance in higher elevations from Georgia to Arkansas. For more information, see Audubon Wildflower or Flora of Maine. |
