Crabapple (Malus species)
Rose Family (Rosaceae)

Habitat:

This small tree is commonly planted for ornamental or agricultural purposes.

Leaves:

Alternately arranged with serrated margins.

Flowers:

White or pale pink, sometimes deep pink, with 5 petals. Fragrant.

Fruit:

Small apples, usually about 1 inch long.
A recipe for Crabapple Jelly.

Helpful Tips:

Crabapples were brought to the United States from Asia. They are rarely found in the wild in Maine. For more information, see Audubon Trees or Flora of Maine.
