Subject: air-inventory Updates to DEP's Emissions Inventory Website and other news

Seasons Greetings to Air-Inventory members!

A number of additions have been made to DEP's Emissions Inventory website that I wanted to let you know about.

(1) Refrigerants page - The Greenhouse Gas section now has a page to help facilities decode the "R-22" and "R-409" into greenhouse gas constituents.
A chart on the page lists refrigerants by ASHRAE 34 naming convention (the "R-"), the greenhouse gas components and the nominal composition by percent weight. We received many calls during the last round of reporting looking for this information and decided to dedicate a webpage to it.

(2) Expansion of Calculation Tools Page - We have added a number of new links to the Greenhouse Gas calculation tools page, including the new NCASI link, AP-42, and the DOE, Energy Information Administration. We also have a PDF version of the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Form (the "green" sheet) on the site for facilities to download (should they need to).

(3) Air-Inventory Listserver digests have been posted through October 2004 on the listserver page, http://www.state.me.us/dep/air/emissions/listserver.htm#Digests.

(4) DEP-Published Reports and Papers page - On the "How do I find out about air emissions and air toxics near my home?" page, we have now posted a page with DEP-published reports and papers on a variety of inventory and toxics issues. The first four documents, available for download as either a Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF document, are on the 2002 inventory, the 1999 inventory, mercury and dioxin.

The DEP will also soon be updating its Air Toxics webpages and providing an expanded Maine Air Toxics Initiative website. Stay tuned....

Other News

Becky Hodsdon has been entering and uploading the 2003 criteria pollutant inventory information into i-Steps. Quality Assurance reports are starting to be sent to our Licensing Unit Engineers for review. Facilities can expect to receive QA reports after the beginning of the year.

Greenhouse gas QA forms have been returned throughout the fall. The DEP expects that inventory to be complete in late January.

More than 95% of facilities required to file their 2003 emissions inventories have now done so. Twenty Letters of Warning were sent to non-submitting facilities earlier this fall and, unfortunately, a number of those have now been referred on to our Enforcement Unit.

And, finally, two items from EPA...

There is a new version of the FIRE (Factor Information and REtrieval) database available on line. This is version 6.25. You can download it at http://www.epa.gov/ttn/chief/software/fire/index.html.

Also, the latest version of the 1970 to 2002 national emissions trends summary data has been posted to the CHIEF web site at http://www.epa.gov/ttn/chief/trends/index.html.

We have significantly revised and reorganized our Air Toxics website at DEP.
The new address is http://www.maine.gov/dep/air/toxics/. The new Air Toxics site contains an expanded Maine Air Toxics Initiative section, including a listing of stakeholders, subcommittees, and a document archive, http://www.maine.gov/dep/air/toxics/mati.htm. There is also a new Mercury page that specifically discusses mercury deposition from air sources, http://www.maine.gov/dep/air/toxics/mercury.htm. Please update any existing bookmarks you may have with links to these Air Toxics sites.

Thank you.
