Enforcement

The enforcement section is responsible for both the coordination of enforcement activities smoking stackswhen violations of Federal and State Air Quality Laws and Regulations occur and the oversight of all stack testing and emissions monitoring at regulated facilities within the State of Maine.

Enforcement activities range from administrative resolutions to court actions. The enforcement section also reviews draft licenses, proposed regulations and assists and coordinates in resolving technical issues as they relate to enforceability of compliance activities and license conditions.

The stack testing section works closely with the Bureau's compliance inspection staff and oversees all aspects of stack sampling, including review and approval of sampling protocols,(stack testing protocol) pretest meetings and reports, observation of test programs, and review of the final report for a determination of compliance. This section also manages the Bureau's Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEM) program and provides expertise on this subject to other Bureau staff, the regulated community and the public.
