Compliance Section

The primary goals of Maine's Bureau of Air Quality are to:
fugitive emissions from rock crushing operation

  • Ensure that all citizens of Maine can breathe clean air every day of the year in every part of the State;
  • Protect plant and animal life and property from air contaminants created by human air polluting activities of every type; and
  • Make our air, land and waterways free from harmful levels of air contaminants.

Find out more about the Compliance Section's efforts in achieving these goals.

One of the duties of compliance inspectors is to inspect Major Source (Title V) facilities. Major sources of air emissions are regulated under Chapter 140 of the Department's Regulations. These are facilities with the Potential to Emit one or more of the following:

  • 50 tons per year VOC
  • 10 tons per year of a single Hazardous Air Pollutant
  • 25 tons per year of all Hazardous Air Pollutants combined
  • 100 tons per year of any other regulated pollutant

The Air Bureau's Division of Licensing maintains a List of Title V Sources. The Title V licenses for these sources are available for download as Adobe PDF files.
