Millennium Marine Poised to Make Waves in 2014

AUGUSTA – Millennium Marine, USA is anticipating significant growth over the course of the coming year, aided by Maine Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) incentive certification. Millennium’s projected investments, totaling over $1.6 million, will be used on building improvements, the purchase of machinery and equipment and employee training. Eight new hires are also expected over the course of the expansion.

“I offer my congratulations to Millennium Marine and their staff,” said Governor Paul R. LePage. “Their plans for expansion are a perfect example of how the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development can work with job creators to provide assistance and support that helps businesses compete and grow. I wish them well as they continue to generate good job opportunities for the people of Eastport and Washington County.”

Cory Guimond, owner of Millennium Marine, spoke to that very potential. “I was looking at some other states to relocate my business, but the [DECD incentives] were a major determining factor. It definitely helped me make up my mind about the long term growth of the company. Building our boats in Maine is a critical part of our business strategy to allow us to not only be close to both Canadian and US markets, but also we believe the 'Made in Maine' logo carries much weight in this industry.” Guimond went on to say that both North Carolina and Maryland had given him reason to consider locating there but reiterated that Maine’s incentive programming was most favorable to him.

Guimond met personally with Governor LePage Account Executive Brian Mulligan at the Millennium Marine shop and worked closely with him to better understand the DECD incentive programs; and eventually to apply for them. “Working with DECD could not have been easier,” said Guimond.

“Millennium Marine is certainly on the move,” said DECD Commissioner George Gervais. “It’s encouraging to continually see Maine companies benefit from our ever-improving competitive economic structure. When businesses demonstrate tangible progress, that success is illustrated throughout the community; and we always try to aid that progression as best we can.”

Millennium Marine was founded in 2002, and produces both recreation and workboats, ranging from 25 to 52 feet. The Guimond family has been in the boatbuilding business since 1940, with over 600 completed projects to their name.

DECD is dedicated to helping companies like Millennium Marine succeed, and utilizes an array of inventive programming to accelerate businesses that wish to grow.
