Governor LePage Account Executive Retires from State Government
AUGUSTA - Governor LePage Account Executive and Senior Program Manager Ron McKinnon recently announced his retirement from the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD). McKinnon’s 14-year tenure in economic development included both field and office work and centered on helping companies and communities boost employment and business opportunities.
“Ron McKinnon’s commitment to fostering business retention and growth opportunities in the State of Maine has been exemplary,” said Governor Paul R. LePage. “I commend him for his dedication and professionalism. Ron has been a valuable asset to my administration and to businesses and economic organizations all across the State of Maine.”
McKinnon has worked with seven different commissioners and five separate Directors in the Office of Business Development. He also worked under three governors of different political affiliations during his tenure; a distinction that McKinnon calls his “hat-trick.” He was hired during the administration of Governor King (I-Maine) and was retained by both Governor Baldacci (D-Maine) and Governor LePage (R-Maine). His last official day on the job is December 31, 2013.
McKinnon spent 24 years in the insurance industry prior to working for the state. Of his many accomplishments at the state level, he helped develop and implement the first formal training program for the State of Maine’s economic development field force.
“Ron’s private and public sector business experience proved to be a valuable asset to the business owners and managers he helped over the years; as well as to his colleagues in state government who benefited from his advice and counsel,” said DECD Commissioner George Gervais. “Ron is someone I consistently relied upon during my time at DECD and his departure leaves our department with some pretty big shoes to fill.”
McKinnon’s retirement plans include travel and spending time with his wife, five daughters, and six grandchildren. He noted that he may also dabble in some business consulting work.
