Notice of Public Comment- HUD Consolidated Plan

10/21/2013

The Maine State Housing Authority and the Department of Economic and Community Development have prepared a draft of the Consolidated Housing and Community Development Plan for the program year 2014.

The Consolidated Plan outlines the strategies that the Maine State Housing Authority and the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) have developed to address low and moderate income housing and community development needs throughout the non-urbanized areas of Maine. The plan describes the various housing and community development initiatives that the State intends to undertake, including funding levels, target populations, and ranges of investment. The plan, which focuses on serving low and moderate income housing and community development needs, has identified the following areas as top priorities: rehabilitation assistance for homeowners and investors, increasing generally the supply of housing, special needs housing, housing for the homeless, and infrastructure and service development to improve community and economic development initiatives.

Citizen participation during 2013 has included several public meetings held around the state and a number of agency meetings with appropriate partners. Those comments and directives are the guiding force for the development of the plan.

MaineHousing and DECD shall hold a public hearing to receive comments on the Consolidated Plan on October 31 at 9:30 am at the Maine State Housing Authority at 353 Water Street, Augusta.
