Individual staff members recently recognized for excellence
Barry Stoodley, Associate Commissioner for Juvenile Services, was honored by the Maine Children's Trust with the State Agency Partner Recognition Award. Lauren Sterling, Children’s Cabinet, presented the Award saying "Barry has worked tirelessly to incorporate strength-based prevention and early intervention strategies into the broader evidence-based practices of improving services to Maine’s incarcerated youth, and works collaboratively with his colleagues across systems to seek a shared understanding of the best research available to support youth as they exit the system."
Brady Nickerson (right, with Lola Armstrong), Long Creek Youth Development Center art teacher won the Arthur Hall Award for contributions in artistry which have "enriched and transformed" the lives of community members.
Ms. Nickerson has not only given the residents the opportunity to express themselves in a constructive way, but also provided them the opportunity to contribute to their immediate community, by beautifying their environment. She has also enabled them to donate thousands of dollars to charity from sales of their art work. You can contact Ms. Nickerson by visiting her website: bradynickerson.com.
Even our clients are award winnersThe students of the Graphic Arts Interest area at Long Creek Youth Development Center were awarded First Place by the Maine Graphics Arts Association for excellence in print and design production, multicolor printing on fabric. They created the color separations needed to print five colors on a t-shirt, using a four color press. The t-shirts project benefitted a non-profit group, The Organization for Transformative Farming. Congratulations to Graphic Arts Teacher Jon Renell and his students!
