NTIA Broadband Grants
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) awarded the ConnectME Authority $5 million with a $1.3 million match by the Authority. This funding is currently being used for projects in four areas:
- Mapping—identifying areas either unserved or underserved by broadband.
- Planning—determining how best to expand broadband infrastructure in Maine.
- Capacity Building—building out the infrastructure to grow broadband access.
- Technical Assistance—increasing digital literacy through community outreach, education, and training.
To identify the underserved and unserved areas of the state and to plan broadband expansion, the ConnectME Authority has awarded contracts to James W. Sewall company for the Mapping and Planning Projects.
ConnectME administers the Broadband Capacity Building Project and utilizes the services of Planning Decisions, Inc., James W. Sewall Company, and Packard, Judd, and Kay, and the Maine Department of Education. The Technical Assistance Project is managed by the Adult Education area within the Department of Education.
