ConnectME Authority Broadband Summits

The ConnectME Authoritys duties include expanding the availability of broadband to residents, small business customers, education and enterprise consumers in unserved or underserved areas; continually assess the availability of and need for advanced communications technology infrastructure in unserved or underserved areas within the state; identify and secure federal and other funding sources for broadband or wireless deployment or education and identify opportunities for coordination among providers, consumers and state and local governmental entities, including coordination with the statewide emergency radio network. The ConnectME Authority sponsors Broadband Summits to bring stakeholders together to discuss the importance of broadband growth to Maine.

On March 30th, the first Broadband Summit took place, Summit 1.0. The event provided an excellent first venue for Maines ARRA broadband recipients to become more aware of the multiple federally funded projects underway in Maine, discuss opportunities and forge relationships to leverage our strengths and challenges moving forward and further understand ConnectMEs role in broadband expansion throughout the state. Focus areas of panels presenting included: expanding broadband access, spurring economic development, increasing adoption, advancing health information technology initiatives and educating citizens around broadband.

Moving forward, the Summit's will focus on small stakeholder focused events and larger citizen, business and provider outreach events.
