This class is for people who have recently been assigned a position requiring the frequent use of a desktop computer. It is an overview class designed to help new users become comfortable in using a PC computer.

This class does not replace our more in-depth classes focused on specific software such as Outlook, Word, or Excel.

Our class will focus on the fundamentals of using a computer with the Windows XP operating system. We will start with familiarizing the user with the layout and functions of basic desktop PCs, the Screen and the Mouse.

From there we will cover the following topics:

Working in a windows environment – understanding the parts of a window, minimizing and maximizing windows. How to move windows and switch between windows when working in more than one program or multiple documents
Customizing windows – looking at the control panel and other options the user can control to enhance their computing experience
Exploring the programs on your computer – how to safely open and close programs
Using Menus and toolbars – How to save files and find them through file management techniques including setting up folders in a logical manner, how to delete and restore files, and saving files to disks
Using basic commands to get started with Word and Excel
Working with emails in Outlook – how to open and read basic email
Passwords, logons, and user accounts – what are they and how to use them
A brief overview of what a network is and how it works
Exploring the internet – how to use Google and other search methods to find information on the internet

Each student will receive a manual full of tips and tricks they can use once they return to their office.
