Eliot Children’s Leadership Council:

The Eliot Children's Leadership Council (ECLC) began again in April 2001 with plans to meet on a monthly basis. After a brief suspension of their activities, the ECLC is again up and running with new and past members. Members include representatives from the Eliot Community Service Department; the Eliot Police Department/Police Explorers; Foster's Daily Democrat Newspaper; the Assistant Principal at Marshwood Middle School and Fine Arts Coordinator of MSAD35; the Community Wellness Coalition; Sweetser Children's Services; a parent/volunteer; and a senior citizen/volunteer.

At the first meeting of the newly reconstituted group, an overview of past C4C activities was presented and discussed by the members. Topics of discussion included: a Senior mentoring program, a Skateboard Park, an Intergenerational Community Center, a Fine Arts program that combines youth and adults, and an Eliot Child/Family Directory List.

Currently, development of the skateboard park is the major focus of this C4C’s planning efforts. The group sent out over 150 surveys to area youth and the response was overwhelming.

The ECLC will continue to brainstorm ideas for new ways to bring adults, senior citizens, and youth together. Currently under development is the idea of holding an Arts Night that would provide an opportunity for local youth and adults to showcase their artistic talents.

The Eliot C4C reports being excited to begin new projects and looking forward to developing new programs to benefit the children and youth of the community.
