The Maine State Board of
Nursing licenses registered professional nurses (RNs) and
licensed practical nurses (LPNs).
The Board also grants approval to nurses in advanced practice
(nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, nurse anesthetists
and clinical nurses specialists).
If you have a
complaint regarding the competence or unprofessional conduct of a
licensed nurse, please send a letter with sufficient detail to:
Maine State Board of Nursing
158 SHS
Augusta, ME 04333-0158
The following items should be included
in your letter:
- First and LAST name of nurse
- License number, if known
- Address or general location( if known)
- What happened and where
- Description in your own words
The Board prefers a written letter
over a "form to complete" because the writer generally sends a
more complete description of the event. The Board office will acknowledge
receipt of your letter.
The next step in the process is that
the Board office will send a copy of the letter to the nurse for his or
her written response. You will be copied on that response when received.
The Board, at its subsequent meeting,
will determine whether or not a violation of the Law Regulating the
Practice of Nursing may have occurred. If so, it will schedule the nurse
for an informal conference to discuss the complaint further.
Complaints
regarding CNAs
The Board of Nursing does NOT regulate
CNAs. Please send any complaints regarding CNAs to the attention of the:
