Definition: Focuses efforts on discovering and meeting the customer's needs. "Customers" include internal colleagues, peers, team members, or Maine State citizens.

PUBLIC SERVICE COORDINATOR

Acts as customer’s advocate within the organization with long term benefit to own organization.
Maintains open communication with clients, keeping customer up-to-date about progress of projects.
Probes for the real, underlying needs of the customer (beyond those expressed initially), and matches these to available (or customized) products or services.
Takes responsibility for solving problems.

PUBLIC SERVICE MANAGER

Encourages subordinates to develop long-term customer solutions rather than convenient short-term solutions.
Develops comparisons of varying groups of customers in terms of similarities and differences in order to develop programs and policies most effectively.
Interacts with customers; listens to, consolidates, and acts upon customer feedback effectively so as to better create policy.
Creates policies, processes, and systems that consistently improve the delivery of customer service.

PUBLIC SERVICE EXECUTIVE

Anticipates the trends and forces driving the basic needs of the group or agency’s customers and evaluates strategic decisions by examining possibilities and their impact.
Considers customer-perceived value as a key criterion for the design of current and future policies.
Gathers data to assess current and future customer needs from a variety of political, agency-based, and public sources; forms alliances with those sources.
Understands, manages, and serves the customers of the agency while delivering on the expectations of the Maine State Government and its constituents.
