Neria R. Douglass, JD, CIA

State Auditor


Neria Douglass of Auburn began her first term as Maine’s State Auditor in January 2005. She sat for the Certified Internal Auditor exam in May 2005 and passed all four parts. She served in the Maine Senate from 1998 to 2004. During her legislative service, she focused on improving accounting practices in state government, access and quality in education from Kindergarten to the University, and affordable health care with Dirigo Health and Maine’s Patients Bill of Rights. As Senator, Douglass worked to secure privacy in telephone and internet services and safety for families affected by domestic violence. She served on the Auburn City Council from 1994 to 1998 and was Chair of the Auburn School Committee from 1989 to 1994.

Douglass earned her law degree from Vanderbilt University and her bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College. She is admitted to practice law in the US Supreme Court, the US District Court for Maine, and the State of Maine, and has been a prosecutor and a private attorney. She has been married to Paul Douglass for 30 years and is mother to Ryan, Nathan, and Lauren.
