Welcome to Horticulture

The horticulture program helps to ensure that healthy plant material is sold within the state of Maine. This is done through licensing and inspecting businesses selling plants, certifying plants exported from the state, regulating plants entering the state and assisting growers with plant pest problems. Other responsibilities of the program include overseeing the arborist, ginseng and integrated pest management (IPM) programs and public education and outreach on horticultural issues. The state horticulturist, two assistant horticulturists and an IPM entomologist staff the horticulture program.
