Meeting on Invasive Terrestrial PlantsPublic meeting: September 5, 2007 from 2 to 5 pm, Maine Department of Agriculture, Deering Building Room 319 in AugustaIn May the legislature passed and the Governor signed Resolve Chapter 21, Directing the Department of Agriculture to Study Invasive Terrestrial Plant Species. The intention of this Resolve was to develop a process with criteria for listing potentially invasive terrestrial plant species that could impact natural ecosystems in Maine. Plants evaluated using this system would be those that are commercially distributed and not necessarily weeds on the landscape. One of the requirements of this resolve was to get input from stakeholders on invasive plants. To this end the Department of Agriculture is holding a public meeting to get your input. This meeting will focus on what plant characteristics and other issues need to be considered when developing invasive plant criteria. This is not a meeting to defend or vilify specific plant species. If you have comments and can not attend the meeting email them to Horticulture. Directions to the Deering Building on the AMHI Campus in Augusta For more information email Horticulture or call Ann Gibbs at 207-287-3891
